It was an odd feeling when we got off the plane in Cape Town, South Africa. We knew we were still in Africa but the city looked like a North American or European city.
Cape Town is a beautiful city that reminded us of Vancouver - a modern and green urban community with amazing nature right next door. Table Mountain is the most prominent landmark in Cape Town.
We continued our animal adventures in Cape Town. We visited an ostrich farm just outside Cape Town on a day when rain and fog descended on the city. Ostrich farming is a big industry in South Africa with high demand for the meat, hide, feathers and eggs. At the ostrich farm, we got to feed the ostriches and learn lots about them.
Our second animal adventure in Cape Town was a shark diving trip. The area around Cape Town is home to Great White Sharks and tour operators will put you in the water with the sharks. We booked this tour several months ago and it was a day we were really looking forward to.
After five hours, a shark finally showed up so into the cage we went.
Unfortunately, there isn't a happy ending to this story. The shark circled the cage for two minutes after Blake got in the water but it disappeared before Vanessa got in the cage. The shark never came back and we never saw another one.
Aside from our shark misadventure, Cape Town was a great stop.
