Our trip in Tanzania differed from Kenya in many ways and one big difference was how we travelled between the game parks. We flew in Kenya and we were driven in Tanzania.
Flying in Kenya was much more casual than flying in North America or Europe - no line-ups and no security screening. We took three flights and the planes were always small. The pilot was usually the only person around so they loaded your bags on the plane and also did the safety briefing ("emergency exits are beside you, drinks are in the cooler in the back, here's a mint, enjoy your flight").
Riding in a vehicle in Tanzania was an experience. We started in Arusha, a city of almost 300,000 people. It was pretty chaotic along the main roads.
We saw lots of women effortlessly carrying very heavy loads on their head. This may be an efficient way to carry heavy loads but it definitely looks like a pain in the neck.
It was much quieter when we got outside of Arusha and headed into the Tanzanian countryside on our way to the game parks. The most interesting sights involved the Maasai.
Flying is the quickest and easiest way to travel between game parks but a little time on the ground definitely added to our Africa experience.
